Mark your calendars for the following:

We celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit to the first believers. The day of Pentecost was a Jewish feast day commemorating the beginning of harvest which brought thousands of pilgrims from many languages to Jerusalem, giving this an optimum time for them to be exposed to the beginnings of the Christian community.

“Pente” means 50 and the Christians used this festival as a time to celebrate fifty days after the Resurrection. Since this is a celebration of the coming of the Holy Spirit as Jesus had promised, the celebration of Pentecost is often marked by the use of red or the symbol of the dove. Worshippers are encouraged to wear red on this Sunday as we mark this important event in the life of the Christian faith.

God took the strength of a mountain,

The majesty of a tree.

The warmth of a summer sun,

The calm of a quiet sea.

The generous soul of nature,

The comforting arm of night.

The wisdom of the ages,

The power of the eagle's flight.

Then God combined these qualities,

There was nothing more to add.

His masterpiece was now complete,

He lovingly called it – DAD!
